The Charleston Battery are thrilled to announce the re-signing of goalkeeper Daniel Kuzemka to a new multi-year contract extension on Wednesday, pending league and federation approval.
Kuzemka, 26, first joined the Battery in 2022 and has made 13 appearances across all competitions in the past three seasons, recording five shutouts.
“I’m looking forward to keeping Patriots Point a fortress,” said Kuzemka. “There’s nothing better than winning, especially at home in front of the best fans in the USL. The Point was rocking all last season, we felt the fans’ presence and I think it really helped us have such a strong year on our home pitch.”
“Dan has been a stalwart for this club and community for the past three seasons and we are elated for his return,” said Head Coach Ben Pirmann. “He is a very sound goalkeeper who has proven time and time again that he is a winner. His selflessness and courage are second to none, while his work rate and passion drive those around him.”
Kuzemka posted back-to-back clean sheets against Monterey Bay FC and Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC in the regular season and recorded a shutout against Atlanta United in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
Off the field, Kuzemka has been active in the community in various ways. He was named winner of the club’s Betsy McAdams Award in 2024, which is won by an organization member who best displays exemplary qualities of the game of soccer, community involvement, sportsmanship and contributions to the club.
The Virginia native initially joined the Battery in 2022, making him the third-longest tenured player on the Battery’s 2024 squad, after Leland Archer and Robbie Crawford.
Heading into his fourth year in the Lowcountry, Kuzemka believes the best is still yet to come.
“I think 2025 will be another dominant year for the squad, we’re bringing back a solid corps of players who are aiming to win even more,” said Kuzemka. “Having this large of a group of players returning from last season’s run in the playoffs is only going to help us this upcoming campaign. I am very optimistic about 2025 for the Battery.”
