Goalkeeper Adam Grinwis announced his retirement from playing via his Instagram account on Sunday. The shot-stopper concluded his decade-long career with a resurgent campaign in Charleston that helped lead the Black and Yellow to the Eastern Conference Final.
“After a lifetime of lessons and memories between the sticks, it’s time to say goodbye,” said Grinwis in his Instagram post. “Through lots of prayer and reflection, I’m officially stepping off the pitch and into the next chapter of my life. To the game I love so much, thank you. To every person I’ve met along the way, I love you and I’m thankful for you. I’ve given this game everything I could and now I’m walking away with peace.”
Grinwis made 33 appearances across the regular season and playoffs for the Battery, recording 10 shutouts and 72 saves while leading one of the best defenses in the USL Championship. The matches and shutouts set single-season career highs for the veteran goalkeeper.
Grinwis previously competed for the Michigan Bucks, Rochester Rhinos, Saint Louis FC, Orlando City SC, Real Monarchs and Sacramento Republic in his career.
The club thanks Adam for his contributions to the club and Charleston community in 2024 and wishes him well for the future.
