The Charleston Battery announced Wednesday a partnership with Coastal Crust Wood-Fired Pizzeria as a premier, local food vendor at Patriots Point for the 2021 season. The Charleston favorite for wood-fired pizza will provide Battery fans made-to-order pizzas on matchday all season long at the new stadium. Coastal Crust will be joined at the Battery’s home opener on May 14 by a full lineup of food trucks including Foxes Fried, Cachita’s Kitchen, Mama’s Boys and Ben & Jerry’s in the stadium’s new Battery Pavilion.
“We’re thrilled to be involved with the new stadium, the new look and feel of the team, it’s just exciting,” said Coastal Crust owner and operator Brian Piesner. Piesner, who played for the Battery in the early 2000s, started Coastal Crust in 2013 as a mobile eatery that quickly grew into three brick & mortar pizzerias with locations in Mount Pleasant, James Island and Greenville, S.C. “It’s exciting for me because I played for the team and now I’m just happy to be back and involved at the new stadium.”
“We couldn’t be more excited to have Coastal Crust as one of our premier eateries at Patriots Point this season,” added Ashley McCulloch, the club’s director of stadium and events. “As a club built by the community, we want to bring fans the best food Charleston has to offer when visiting the stadium. With Coastal Crust and a lineup of local-favorite food trucks for fans to choose from, we’re just getting started and cannot wait to announce more as the season progresses.”
As a premier local eatery at the stadium, Coastal Crust will be joined throughout the season by a rotating lineup of local purveyors in the stadium’s new food and beverage area, the Battery Pavilion. Along with local dining options, the open-air Battery Pavilion features a stage for off-the-field entertainment, starting with the Bud Light Pre-Match Concert featuring David Higgins starting at 5:30 on Friday.
For the sold-out home opener on May 14 against Charlotte Independence, fans will have a variety of dining options in the new Battery Pavilion with cooked-to-order pizzas from Coastal Crust, signature wet-battered fried chicken and more from Foxes Fried, authentic Mexican dishes from Cachita’s Kitchen, plus sandwiches and ‘specialty dawgs’ from the new ghost kitchen, Mama’s Boys. And to satisfy fans’ sweet tooths, Ben & Jerry’s will round out the desert options.
Gates open at 5:30 on Friday.
