2008 Coaching Staff

Head Coach, Mike Anhaeuser (michael.anhaeuser@charlestonbattery.com)

Mike Anhaeuser joined the Charleston Battery as a player in 1994 after graduating from Indiana University where he won a NCAA Championship in 1988. Anhaeuser played six seasons as a midfielder for the Battery and still ranks 4th all-time in games played (115) and 2nd all-time in assists (17).

Anhaeuser switched to a coaching role in 1999 after tearing his ACL during pre-season. The Fort Wayne, IN native was Alan Dicks’ assistant-coach from 1999-2001 and then Chris Ramsey’s from 2002-2004. Anhaeuser was a key member of the Battery coaching staff that won the USL First Division Championship in 2003. In 2006 Anhaeuser led the Battery to the third round of the US Open Cup and to the semifinals of the USL First Division playoffs; following the season Anhaeuser was voted USL First Division Coach of the Year.

Mike Anhaeuser lives in Mount Pleasant, SC with his wife Kim and their two children, Lauren and Derek.

Assistant Coach, Mark Watson (mark.watson@charlestonbattery.com)

Watson returned to the Battery in 2006 in a player / assistant coach role; his fifth season with the Club. In 2006 Watson played 26 games anchoring the Battery back-line and in the process became one of only five players to have played 100 games for the Charleston Battery.

A former Captain of the Canadian National Team, Watson earned 77 caps and scored 3 goals for Canada. His international career highlights include appearing in five of Canada's eight World Cup qualifying matches in 2000. Most recently Watson served as an assistant coach for the Canadian National team.

At a domestic level since he turned pro in 1991, Watson has played for teams in Canada, in the US and in Europe.
